Nose
Vivid aromas of lime zest, green apple and grapefruit, layered with delicate white florals and a stony, volcanic minerality that reflects the Tokaj terroir beautifully.
Palate
Medium-bodied with electric, precise acidity that energises the palate. Flavours of citrus fruit, white melon and a subtle honey note unfold cleanly, with a firm yet refined mouthfeel.
Finish
Long, clean and transparent finish with lingering mineral and citrus notes. Exceptionally fresh and food-friendly, with a purity that defines great dry Furmint.
Oremus Mandolás 2023 stands as one of the most compelling dry white wines to emerge from Tokaj-Hegyalja, the UNESCO World Heritage wine region in northeastern Hungary. Crafted entirely from Furmint — the region's noble grape — by the celebrated Oremus estate, now under the stewardship of the Álvarez family of Vega Sicilia fame since 1993, this is a wine that bridges centuries of winemaking tradition with a distinctly contemporary sensibility.
The Mandolás vineyard sits on volcanic soils that lend the wine its signature mineral backbone. Selective hand-harvesting preserves the natural tension and aromatic precision that make this bottling so distinctive. If you're looking to buy Oremus Mandolás online, you're investing in a benchmark dry Furmint from Tokaj that rewards both immediate enjoyment and thoughtful cellaring.
On the nose, the 2023 vintage opens with vivid notes of lime zest, green apple and grapefruit, underscored by delicate white florals and a stony, volcanic minerality that speaks directly of its terroir. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied and precisely structured, with crisp, electric acidity that drives the palate forward with real energy. Flavours of citrus fruit, white melon and a whisper of honey unfold seamlessly across the mid-palate, while the finish is clean, transparent and gratifyingly long — a hallmark of great Furmint.
This terroir-driven Tokaj white wine is exceptionally food-friendly. Pair it with cold-water fish such as sea bass or salt cod, with briny oysters and shellfish, with light risottos and vegetable dishes, or with soft fresh cheeses. At 13% vol, it strikes an elegant balance between richness and restraint. Age-worthy up to a decade under ideal conditions, the Oremus Mandolás 2023 is equally rewarding poured straight from the fridge tonight. Available now with European delivery from Mercado 46.

The Winery
Founded in 1993
Oremus Tokaji is one of the most iconic wineries in the Tokaj region of northeastern Hungary, nestled amid the Zemplén Mountains near the Ukrainian border. While wine production at the Oremus vineyard dates back to 1620, and a medieval document from June 16, 1462 constitutes the earliest written reference to its vineyards, the winery in its current form was established in 1993 when the Álvarez family — owners of the legendary Vega Sicilia estate in Spain — acquired these lands and embarked on an ambitious project of restoration and modernization. The name «Oremus» derives from Latin, meaning «let us pray», reflecting the spiritual reverence that has historically surrounded these extraordinary wines. The Álvarez family has masterfully balanced the centuries-old tradition of one of the world's most revered wines with technological advancement. Their thorough study of local production methods and deep respect for tradition are evident in the construction of the new winery and in every stage of the winemaking process. The stated goal at Oremus is to produce Tokaji wines of elegance and balance, always seeking a perfect harmony between sweet fruit and the natural acidity that defines this appellation. The estate encompasses 33 hectares of vineyard planted predominantly with Furmint, the flagship variety of Tokaj, alongside Hárslevelü, Sárga Muskotály, Zéta, Kövérszolo, and Gohér. The winemaking process follows the traditional formula of the region: the botrytised Aszú and Eszencia wines undergo slow fermentation and years of ageing in small barrels within the ancient underground cellars of the estate. The range includes Aszú wines from three to six puttonyos, Eszencia, Late Harvest, and single-vineyard dry whites such as Mandolás and Petrács. The Tokaj Hegyalja region was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002, and as early as 1772, in the world's first vineyard classification, Oremus was ranked PRIMAE CLASSIS. Its wines enjoy broad international critical acclaim and consistently high scores in specialist publications.
