“Lees-aged Verdejo from a family estate in DO Rueda: grapefruit, white blossom, fennel and a long, minerally finish.”
Ask Sofíaarrow_forwardTechnical sheet
Nose
Expressive and layered bouquet of ripe white peach, grapefruit zest and candied orange peel, lifted by white blossom and a herbal streak of fresh fennel and green grass.
Palate
Rich, plush mouthfeel with a lively backbone of natural acidity. Flavours of white fruit, anise and a subtle creaminess from lees ageing; mid-palate is broad and fruit-forward yet focused.
Finish
Long, poised and elegantly persistent finish with lingering notes of anise and white fruit. Well-balanced and refined, with a minerally quality that invites another sip.
Nidia Verdejo is the flagship white from Bodegas Nidia, a family-run estate founded in 2010 by Daniel Torío in the storied DO Rueda appellation of Castile and León. Grown on the La Cabaña estate — clay and cobblestone soils with high calcium content, sitting above 770 metres elevation — this is a terroir-driven Verdejo that owes its character to the dramatic diurnal temperature swings of the continental climate. Cool nights lock in acidity and aromatics; warm days build ripeness and body. The result is a white wine of rare balance and complexity.
Vinified on its lees, Nidia Verdejo gains texture, breadth and a subtle creaminess that elevates it well beyond a simple fresh-and-fruity style. Nocturnal harvesting preserves aromatic integrity from vine to bottle, a detail that speaks to the winery's uncompromising approach. At 13.5% vol, the wine carries real presence without ever feeling heavy.
The bouquet is expressive and layered: ripe white peach and pear mingle with grapefruit zest and candied orange peel, underpinned by white blossom and a characteristic herbal streak of fennel and fresh grass. On the palate, the mouthfeel is rich, almost plush, with a welcome tension from the wine's natural acidity keeping everything bright and focused. Mid-palate flavours of white fruit and anise evolve beautifully, while the finish is long, poised and elegantly persistent — a hallmark of quality Verdejo from old vines on mineral-rich soils.
A superb food-friendly white, Nidia Verdejo pairs effortlessly with grilled sea bass, steamed clams, prawn risotto and soft, creamy cheeses. It is equally rewarding as a standalone aperitif for those who appreciate structured, age-worthy Spanish whites.

The Winery
Founded in 2010
Bodegas Nidia is a small family-run project located on the La Cabaña estate in Medina del Campo (Valladolid), within the Rueda Denominación de Origen. The vineyard's history dates back to 1988, when the family committed to viticulture on this property. However, it was not until 2010 that young winemaker Daniel Torío began commercially producing wines under the Nidia label, driven by his belief in the exceptional potential of the family's vines. The La Cabaña terroir is a defining element: clay soils with the presence of rounded pebbles and high calcium content, situated close to the Adaja River at an altitude of over 770 metres. The continental climate, with significant diurnal temperature variations, combined with vineyards planted during the 1980s and 1990s and tended with meticulous care over the decades, provides the outstanding raw material that shapes every Nidia wine. The philosophy at Nidia is clear and uncompromising: to craft special, authentic, and 100% varietal wines. In the winery, tradition is combined with the latest technological advances, favouring slow fermentations of approximately 20 days at controlled temperatures between 14 °C and 15 °C, to preserve the full fruity character and varietal expression of each vintage. Among the most celebrated wines is Nidia de Guarda, a 100% Verdejo aged on its lees from vines over 30 years old, conceived to showcase the ageing potential of great white wines on a world stage. The range also includes a fresh Verdejo, Sauvignon Blanc, and reds from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2011 vintage firmly established Nidia as one of the finest and most consistent boutique Verdejo producers in Spain, with wines admired for their vibrant aromatic profile, offering orchard fruit and citrus notes intertwined with clean mineral character. A benchmark producer for lovers of Rueda Verdejo at its most expressive.
