Mandolas Dry 2023 from Oremus Tokaji is a terroir-driven dry white wine crafted entirely from Furmint, the noble grape that has defined Hungary's Tokaj wine region for centuries. Far from an easy-drinking curiosity, this is a structured, mineral and food-friendly white that demands attention and rewards patience — a wine that genuinely competes at the premium end of European whites.
Vintage 2023 presents with a clean 13% abv, characteristic of Furmint harvested at ideal ripeness from volcanic soils that leave an unmistakable mineral fingerprint on every glass. Unoaked in style, the winemaking philosophy at Oremus is one of non-intervention: let the terroir speak, let the variety sing. The result is a wine of crystalline focus and admirable restraint.
On the nose, Mandolas Dry 2023 opens with green apple, ripe pear and fresh citrus alongside white blossom and a haunting saline undercurrent — textbook volcanic Furmint. The palate is taut and lively, with grippy acidity framing generous stone-fruit flavours and a mid-palate of real presence. The finish is long, precise and elegantly dry, with that signature minerally backbone that makes age-worthy Furmint so compelling to follow over years in bottle.
Food pairings are plentiful: white fish, shellfish, fresh goat's cheese and Asian-inflected dishes with citrus or ginger notes are all natural companions. It also shines as a sophisticated aperitif — sharp, focused and impossible to ignore.
If you're looking to buy Mandolas Dry 2023 online or explore the best Furmint white wine from Tokaj for European delivery, this is a benchmark bottle. Oremus has long been considered one of the great custodians of the Tokaj tradition, and Mandolas Dry is their calling card for dry-style Furmint done with precision and soul.

The Winery
Founded in 1993
Oremus Tokaji is one of the most iconic wineries in the Tokaj region of northeastern Hungary, nestled amid the Zemplén Mountains near the Ukrainian border. While wine production at the Oremus vineyard dates back to 1620, and a medieval document from June 16, 1462 constitutes the earliest written reference to its vineyards, the winery in its current form was established in 1993 when the Álvarez family — owners of the legendary Vega Sicilia estate in Spain — acquired these lands and embarked on an ambitious project of restoration and modernization. The name «Oremus» derives from Latin, meaning «let us pray», reflecting the spiritual reverence that has historically surrounded these extraordinary wines. The Álvarez family has masterfully balanced the centuries-old tradition of one of the world's most revered wines with technological advancement. Their thorough study of local production methods and deep respect for tradition are evident in the construction of the new winery and in every stage of the winemaking process. The stated goal at Oremus is to produce Tokaji wines of elegance and balance, always seeking a perfect harmony between sweet fruit and the natural acidity that defines this appellation. The estate encompasses 33 hectares of vineyard planted predominantly with Furmint, the flagship variety of Tokaj, alongside Hárslevelü, Sárga Muskotály, Zéta, Kövérszolo, and Gohér. The winemaking process follows the traditional formula of the region: the botrytised Aszú and Eszencia wines undergo slow fermentation and years of ageing in small barrels within the ancient underground cellars of the estate. The range includes Aszú wines from three to six puttonyos, Eszencia, Late Harvest, and single-vineyard dry whites such as Mandolás and Petrács. The Tokaj Hegyalja region was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002, and as early as 1772, in the world's first vineyard classification, Oremus was ranked PRIMAE CLASSIS. Its wines enjoy broad international critical acclaim and consistently high scores in specialist publications.
