Nose
An expressive and generous bouquet of ripe red cherry, plum, and wild bramble, with earthy woodland undertones and delicate spice from the French oak ageing.
Palate
Full-bodied yet refreshingly vibrant on the palate, with grippy but polished tannins and lively acidity. Red fruit and plum flavours interweave with warm spice, vanilla, and toasted oak in a beautifully structured mid-palate.
Finish
Long, juicy, and persistently elegant, with a lingering finish that reflects the depth of old-vine Tempranillo and the care of a 14-month French oak elevage.
Conde de los Andes Tinto 2018 is a compelling red wine from DOCa Rioja, produced by Bodegas Ollauri-Conde de los Andes — a historic estate whose underground cellars stretch over a kilometre beneath the village of Ollauri and house more than 450,000 bottles spanning over a century of vintages. This 100% old-vine Tempranillo, sourced from plots averaging over 50 years of age in the Rioja Alta subzone, is a statement of terroir-driven winemaking and unhurried craftsmanship.
The wine was aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, half of them new, followed by a further 12 months of bottle ageing before release — a regime that speaks to the winery's commitment to quality over speed. The result is a structured, age-worthy red with a beautifully integrated oak influence that never overwhelms the fruit.
On the nose, the bouquet is expressive and layered: ripe red cherries, plum, and wild bramble are underpinned by subtle earthy and woodland notes, with the French oak contributing delicate spice and a whisper of smokiness. The mouthfeel is full and yet surprisingly fresh, with grippy but polished tannins and a lively acidity that keeps the mid-palate vibrant and focused. Red fruit and warm spice flavours weave seamlessly with hints of vanilla and toasted oak in a beautifully balanced structure. The finish is long and juicy, lingering with real persistence and elegance.
At 14% vol, this is a confident, food-friendly red that pairs magnificently with roasted red meats, rack of lamb, game birds, and aged hard cheeses. Its drinking window extends comfortably for another six to seven years, though it is already drinking superbly.

The Winery
In the heart of Rioja Alta, a short distance from Haro and Briones, lies a small municipality with a long winemaking history, as evidenced by its manor houses dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Since 2014, this winery has taken on the legacy of the former Paternina estate and the historic Conde de los Andes brand — one of the great names in Rioja winemaking and wine culture. Today, guided by the Murúa family, Bodegas Ollauri-Conde de los Andes revives a tradition that stretches back several centuries.
