“A luscious botrytised Sauternes from Rothschild's Rieussec estate: candied apricot, lemon curd and a beautifully persistent, structured finish.”

Nose
An opulent bouquet of candied white fruit and bitter orange, evolving through lemon tart, orange marmalade and preserved apricot. Notes of candied ginger, beeswax and yellow flowers add elegance and notable aromatic complexity.
Palate
A delicate, silky entry that builds into a full-bodied, unctuous mouthfeel. Fresh pineapple and passion fruit at the mid-palate are framed by honey and grapefruit, with seamlessly integrated French oak providing structure and volume without masking the fruit. Bright acidity keeps the sweetness in check.
Finish
A long, taut and lingering finish with a minerally thread that beautifully counterbalances the sweetness. Persistent aromatic memory of candied apricot, honey and warm spice lasting well beyond the swallow.
Château Carmes de Rieussec 2015 is the second wine of the illustrious Château Rieussec, a Premier Cru Classé de Sauternes produced under the stewardship of Les Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite). Positioned beside the legendary Château d'Yquem on the sun-drenched hillsides of Sauternes, this estate draws on 85 hectares of sandy-gravelly soils that retain heat by day and release it gently at night, creating ideal conditions for the development of Botrytis cinerea — the noble rot that transforms ripe Sémillon into liquid gold.
The 2015 vintage blend follows classic Sauternes proportions: 87% Sémillon for richness and textural weight, 7% Sauvignon Blanc providing citrus-driven lift and fresh acidity, and 6% Muscadelle lending a delicate floral signature. Harvesting unfolded over six to eight weeks of successive hand-picking passes, selecting only botrytis-affected berries at optimal concentration. The wine was then aged for 18 to 26 months in new French oak barrels, resulting in a seamlessly integrated, age-worthy Sauternes with genuine cellaring potential.
The bouquet is immediately captivating: lemon tart and orange marmalade interweave with preserved apricot, candied ginger and a wisp of beeswax, with floral undercurrents that speak to the Muscadelle's contribution. On the palate, the mouthfeel is sumptuously unctuous yet disciplined — fresh pineapple and passion fruit brighten the mid-palate, while honey, grapefruit and toasted oak notes add depth and complexity. The finish is notably long and taut, with a minerally thread that prevents the sweetness from feeling heavy.
A superb match for pan-seared foie gras, Roquefort or Stilton, crème brûlée and fruit-based pastry. Buy Château Carmes de Rieussec 2015 online through Mercado 46 and discover one of the most refined botrytised sweet wines from Bordeaux, available with European delivery.
