Buen Camino 2018 is an oak-aged red wine crafted from Tempranillo in the prestigious Ribera del Duero Denominación de Origen — one of Spain's most celebrated wine regions, renowned for producing some of the country's most structured and age-worthy reds. The 2018 vintage brought balanced growing conditions to the high Castilian plateau, allowing the Tempranillo grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, resulting in wines of notable depth and finesse.
As a crianza, Buen Camino 2018 has spent a minimum of twelve months in oak barrels followed by further refinement in bottle — a process mandated by the Ribera del Duero regulatory council. This careful elevage lends the wine a pleasing complexity: the natural fruit character of Tempranillo is complemented by gentle spice and vanilla notes from the oak, with tannins that feel rounded and approachable without sacrificing structure.
On the nose, expect aromas of ripe red cherry, plum and blackberry, underscored by hints of cedar, dried herbs and a subtle earthy character typical of terroir-driven Tempranillo from this altitude. The palate is generous and full-bodied, with a lively backbone of acidity that brings freshness and length. Grippy yet polished tannins frame a finish that lingers with warm spice and dark fruit. A textbook example of what Ribera del Duero does best.
Buen Camino 2018 is a wonderfully food-friendly wine. It pairs naturally with grilled and roasted red meats, slow-braised lamb, game dishes and aged sheep's milk cheeses. Its structure also makes it an ideal companion to hearty stews and charcuterie boards.

The Winery
Founded in 1887
Bodega Buen Camino is a family winery with deep roots in Tórtoles de Esgueva, in the heart of Burgos, within the Ribera del Duero Denominación de Origen. Its story dates back to 1887, when grandfather Feliciano first crafted wine in the old family house, laying the foundation for a tradition that today is carried forward by Javier Vallejo and his two sons, Jorge and Javi. They have expanded the winery's facilities while preserving the artisanal spirit that has always defined it. One of Buen Camino's most distinctive features is the location of its vineyards: the most northerly in the entire appellation. Spread across 18 hectares around Tórtoles de Esgueva, this extreme terroir is shaped by poor, stony, limestone-based soils, slopes with varying sun exposures, clay-sandy gradients, and a plateau at 950 metres above sea level, all subject to persistent winds that lend the wines a unique and unmistakable character. The winery operates under certified organic viticulture, committed to manual processes and limited productions that faithfully reflect the character of each plot. The main variety is Tempranillo, complemented by Garnacha and Albillo, with a minimal-intervention philosophy aimed at preserving the genuine aromatic expression of the terroir. Among its most notable wines, Buen Camino is crafted from the finest grapes selected across the different vineyards, featuring cold pre-fermentation maceration and ageing in French and American oak barrels. Guademeya is the winery's most exclusive offering, sourced from the most north-westerly plot in the entire DO, fermented in small vats and aged in new French oak barrels. Buen Camino Noroeste, meanwhile, is the freshest wine in the range, with a light barrel ageing that highlights the fruit and the altitude of the terroir. Buen Camino is a winery deeply committed to wine culture and rural life, producing signature wines that honestly express the soul of one of Ribera del Duero's most singular corners.
