Bideona Cabezadas Viura 2023 is a terroir-driven white wine from Rioja Alavesa, crafted by Bideona — one of the region's most compelling new producers. Founded in 2018 by Master of Wine Andreas Kubach in partnership with Península Vinicultores, the estate has quickly established itself as a benchmark for a new, place-focused style of Rioja that prioritises vineyard expression over winemaking intervention. If you're looking to buy Bideona Cabezadas Viura online, this is one of the most characterful Spanish white wines available today.
The Viura grapes come from old vines averaging over 50 years of age, rooted in the limestone-rich soils of Rioja Alavesa — the small, northernmost subzone of the appellation, where Atlantic influence and altitude preserve natural acidity. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged for four months on its fine lees, a process that builds texture and mouthfeel while keeping the fruit profile precise and the minerality fully intact.
In the glass, the wine offers a fresh and inviting bouquet: ripe stone fruit, white blossom, and a distinctive flinty minerality that speaks directly to its calcareous terroir. On the palate, it is crisp and structured, with bright acidity framing the fruit beautifully and leading to a clean, dry, lingering finish with a mineral backbone that sets it apart from more generic Viura expressions.
This is a food-friendly white wine that pairs beautifully with grilled fish, fresh seafood, rice dishes, and soft to semi-cured cheeses. It also shines as a standalone aperitif, where its aromatic complexity can take centre stage.
For lovers of age-worthy white wine from Rioja or those discovering the expressive potential of Viura, Bideona Cabezadas 2023 is an essential bottle. Available now at Mercado 46 with European delivery.

The Winery
Founded in 2018
Bideona is a winery located in Villabuena de Álava, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, founded in 2018 following the acquisition of Bodegas Arabarte by Basque entrepreneur Gorka Izagirre. The project is a joint venture between the Izagirre family and Madrid-based Península Vinicultores, whose Masters of Wine Andreas Kubach and Sam Harrop lead the technical and commercial strategy alongside winemaker Tao Platón. In December 2021, the winery inaugurated a new 7,500 m² facility in Villabuena de Álava, bringing the total surface area to 10,000 m². Bideona's viticultural heritage is one of its most remarkable assets: approximately 300 small plots totalling around 80 hectares, with an average vine age of over 50 years. Each plot averages 0.3 hectares and is spread across some of Rioja Alavesa's most emblematic villages, including Samaniego, Leza, Laguardia, Baños de Ebro, Navaridas, Lanciego, and Elciego. Bideona's winemaking philosophy moves away from the traditional emphasis on oak ageing in favour of highlighting the expression of individual vineyards and their origins. Under a minimal-intervention approach the team calls 'sensitive winemaking', each small parcel is vinified separately, prioritising place over process. The goal is to craft fresh, elegant wines with great ageing potential that faithfully reflect the specific sites, villages and vineyards of Rioja Alavesa. The range encompasses regional wines, village wines, and single-vineyard wines. Among the most notable are 'Cofrades', an old-vine Tempranillo from Leza prized for its diverse clonal composition, deep character and spiced profile, and 'Galtzada', an old-vine Garnacha of singular depth and precision. Mayela is the winery's 'Cosechero 2.0' project: a young, juicy, unoaked red wine that reimagines the traditional cosechero style of Rioja Alavesa for a contemporary audience. In 2025, Bideona was awarded the prestigious 'Best Of Wine Tourism' prize, recognising its commitment to wine tourism and its role in showcasing the new categories of Rioja.
